Julie Culligan - Scottish Artist
I am a Scottish artist working mostly in acrylics as I love the vibrancy and colour. I like to vary what I paint between portraits, landscapes and even more abstract subjects such as buddha. Painting is very relaxing and totally absorbing for me, I often find myself out in the studio as it gets dark around me.
I started, or should I say re-started, painting in my fifties, just before the pandemic lockdown. Balancing my professional career in IT consulting with my family didn't leave a lot of spare time for hobbies. Lockdown of course gave us all more spare time and I practiced my art to stay sane at weekends and evenings after a day of video calls and home-schooling. In the summer of 2021 we built a fantastic studio in the garden, complete with wood-burning stove and chill out space. I gave up work and 'piloted' retirement, you can probably see why it became permanent.
